What is the best accounting software to use?

My friend is an independent distributor (route sales). He owns a bread delivery route. What would be the best accounting software for him to use to keep track of his business expenses?
I’m not a professional when it comes to accounting or book keeping but i used to use Quickbooks and changed to MYOB just over a year ago. Both programs are fantastic. Quickbooks i would say is a little easier to use and the search options (for transactions) are great. MYOB is a little bit trickier yet very similar. As mentioned by someone else… you really should invest in a book keeper to consolidate EOM and ensure that all deposits/payments/purchases/outgoings are entered into the correct accounts. Things can get messy and if not done correctly or corrected, BAS/TAX would be incorrect.

Quickbooks pro seems to have dropped in price recently. The pro version is nice because you can convert all the reports to a spreadsheet format for further manipulation. If you don’t need or want that feature, just buy the basic program. Don’t pay extra for any of the "custom" forms of the program.
However, there is a serious risk in using Quickbooks if you don’t know what you are doing. You can miss-classify transactions between the balance sheet and income statement and really screw things up. You can easily post duplicate transactions without being aware of it.
To start out, keep it simple – just post deposits and check – cash transactions – and RECONCILE THE BANK STATEMENT EVERY MONTH using the Quickbooks "reconcile" feature.

He could consider online accounting software – it’s easier to use and backups and upgrades are taken care of automatically by the service provider.
